Manolo and Esmeralda met in college but it wasn’t until after college that they reconnected. They had their first date at Paesano’s in downtown Sacramento. It was during that first date that they both knew the other was someone special. There was not a moment of awkwardness or silence during this first date. Conversations flowed easily and smiles grew larger and larger. It was an evening that neither of them wanted to end. Manolo walked her to her car and couldn’t wait to see her again. Manolo invited Esme for coffee three days later on New Years Eve. Four hours melted away as the two got to know each other better and better. They both knew after this date that they wanted to continue seeing each other. They continued dating for a few months and in April of 2018 they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. During their time as boyfriend and girlfriend they were each other’s support system through work, school, and family. They were both there for each other’s Masters Program and big life changes. Esmeralda describes Manolo as her biggest cheerleader he is always in her corner and pushes her to be her best. Esmeralda loves his kind heart, his contagious energy, and love of all things nerdy. With Manolo she feels loved everyday. Manolo adores Esme’s genuine and loving heart. Ever since he met her long ago in college he could tell there was something beautiful about her soul and in their relationship he has been blessed to experience her marvelousness every day. Manolo loves how kind and gentle Esme is, yet at the same time he admires her resilience and strength. There is something about Esme that is so strong and reliable. Without question, Manolo has known in his heart since meeting her that she is a very special woman and who he wanted to build a future together with. They celebrated their 3 year anniversary in Lake Tahoe one of their favorite places. Manolo took Esme to watch the sunrise on May 1st, 2021 and it was there overlooking the beautiful sunrise at Emerald Bay were he proposed. Surprise… Esme said yes!
